I have the honour to forward the

enclosed copy of a letter by Dr. J. C. Thomson dated the

30th. ultimo, together with a copy of report by a Medicel

Board certifying that he is suffering from sprue in an

early stage and recommending that he should be invalided.

The Acting Principal Civil Medical Officer has expressed

his concurrence in the report of the Medical Board, and I

have therefore decided to invalid Dr. Thomson with effect

from the last day of this year. He will be a great loss to

the Colony and especially to the Chinese College of

Medicine.

It is important that the Officer

selected to fill the vacancy should arrive in Hongkong as

soon after the 31st. of next December as possible, and the

Acting Principal Civil Medical Officer urges that

preference should be given to one who has passed through
